Random acts of kindness are good for the heart

by Wellness Champions, Concordia Plans
Random Acts of Kindness Week

Did you know that people who participate in acts of kindness can divert attention away from their own depression and anxiety symptoms, providing temporary relief.* It also was discovered that acts of kindness can increase happiness and self-esteem while decreasing stress and emotional reactivity.

An act of kindness can:

  • ✓ Decrease stress.
  • ✓ Boost happiness.
  • ✓ Lower blood pressure.
  • ✓ Release “feel good” chemicals (serotonin, oxytocin).
  • ✓ Inspire more kindess (a good thing to be contagious).

Here are some simple, creative ideas to get you started:

  • Visit a senior home.
  • Donate a book to your local library.
  • Send someone an encouraging, hand-written letter.
  • Write scriptures on sticky notes and share them randomly.
  • Share a smile with people you pass by.
  • Pick up litter.

Concordia Plans has provided a shareable note card that you can use to spread your light!
